A cement truck rammed into a school bus carrying young children, resulting in the death of two, including a student.

The mishap took place on Friday afternoon along West State Highway 21 near Caldwell Road in Bastrop County, just outside Austin.

The bus of the Hays Consolidated Independent School District was carrying 44 pre-kindergarten students from Tom Green Elementary School and 11 adults returning from a field trip.

Reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety revealed that the bus collided with a concrete truck and another car on State Highway 21. The crash left two dead and many others on board the bus injured.

Emergency services arrived swiftly and transported some of 32 injured people to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center for treatment. “Additional patients have been transported by other agencies,” Austin-Travis County EMS said.

Parents were notified of the accident. The authorities have launched the investigation. Officials have expressed their condolences to the families involved.

“Please pray for the families of Tom Green Elementary School,” Mayor Lee Urbanovsky said in a Facebook post.

Senator John Cornyn called for prayers for the affected individuals and their families. “‘Please join me in praying for these children, educators, and their families, especially those who have lost loved ones, during this difficult time,” he said.
